Types of Treatments to Use with Doors

When you’ve got a glass, sliding-door in your home, you know that window treatments will inevitably become something that you need to consider. These giant windows are something that we see as perks when we first start to look into a home, but they are a little bit trickier to work with when you’re trying to find a treatment that will work with the overall look of your home, while also providing you the control that you’d like over your sliding door.

With the number of treatments that we have to offer at Arjay’s Window Treatments, we’ve come up with some creative ways that we can incorporate treatments with your windows that you’ll wind up loving. Here are a few of our favorite options.

Pull Down Shades

If you have french doors in your home, shades that pull down are a fantastic option to choose from. These shades not only give you a lot of control with the amount of lighting that’s coming into your home, but they can make it easier to have throughout your home.

If your french doors are connected to the dining area or the kitchen of your home, you will likely have plenty of other windows that you have to factor in. If you would like to keep the overall flow of the space that you already have, then pull down blinds are a great choice. They make a variety of pull down window treatments for windows that can also be used for shades, so it’ll be much easier to find something that you can be consistent with.

Aside from that, it’s much nicer to have a window treatment that fits your door perfectly. Options like drapes and sliding vertical blinds are certainly an option, but with doors that open outwards, the last thing that you’re going to want to have to deal with is an object that’s getting in the way.

Vertical Blinds

One of the most common treatments that we use for sliding glass doors is vertical blinds. They’re a common style, but they work so well that there’s very little reason to consider other options. When you think of these, imagine something similar to your standard blinds, but rather than standing horizontally, the slats will be vertical.

Connected by a bar at the top of the sliding door, your blinds will be easy to move thanks to the wand of the blinds. These make it easy to open and close the slats, but also move the slats so that they’re entirely open, or entirely closed. That being said, this feature makes it easy to use this window treatment similarly to how you would use blinds; giving you plenty of control from the sun, gorgeous views and a look that’s easy to incorporate into a variety of aesthetics.

Another look that we see commonly used for doors are drapes. If you like having something that is flowy, light and can add some texture to your space, then drapes might be the perfect option for the doors that you have in your home. There are a variety of colors and designs that you can choose from with this particular option, which makes it easy to add them into your home and create an overall feel or theme in your home.

If aesthetic or theme is something that you really want to focus on within your space, then incorporating drapes into the design is something that you should strongly consider. These are one of the best window treatments to add styling points while also taking care of the design factors.

Window Tinting

If you’re less concerned about the aesthetic of the actual window treatment, and you are simply looking for the coverage and protection for the interior of your home, then window tinting is another fantastic choice that you’re able to choose. This option is available for all forms of windows and is extremely successful when working with glass doors.

A major benefit to this particular form of window treatment is that it’s extremely easy to incorporate this throughout a home. With this treatment, you can enjoy less powerful beams of sunlight, protection for the interior of your home, and you don’t have to worry so much about any design aspects. This is a great option for doors that lead out to an incredible view. If that’s something that you really want to focus on, adding the window tint, and not obscuring the view of the window, will provide you with the best of both worlds.

These are the primary types of window treatments that will be used when looking to cover a screen door. If there are certain issues or concerns that you have, let us know and we’ll do our best to assist you.

Understanding the Basics of Window Film

When you think about window treatments, the first thing that likely comes to mind are going to mini blinds, drapes, plantation shutters, and other window treatments of the sort. These are the standard form of window treatments, but they aren’t the only ones. One of the window treatments that we have seen become quite popular is a window film. Providing homes with both privacy and protection from the sun, window film is definitely a treatment that should be considered when shopping around for the perfect window treatment for your home. While this is a popular option, very few people really understand all that goes into window film, and mostly don’t understand how it works.

Our blog post today is dedicated to providing you with answers to some of the most frequently asked questions that we get from window film.

What is Window Film?

Window film, in the most straight forward of explanations, is made up of multiple, thin layers of polyester material. Even when stacked up on top of each other, the film is incredibly thin. Each layer of the film contributes something different to make it the incredible window treatment that it is; heat, UV, light, glare and privacy are all components of this incredible window treatment. While every window film will take the previously mentioned items into consideration, there are various types of window films that specialize in one of the areas to provide you with more protection from glare, or more privacy, that you can choose from.

What are the Benefits of Window Film?

The list of benefits that we have compiled for window films is so extensive that it created a blog post all of its own. For the most part, this particular window treatment will provide you with the same benefits as other window treatments, but with a few that are specific to the film itself. One of the main benefits that is subject to this particular window treatment is that it’s so thin, yet you still receive the benefits. If there are windows that you love the view they offer, and a window treatment to cover it up isn’t something that you’d like to have done, then you should definitely be considering window film. This tinted film will allow for you to see through and enjoy the view, while still minimizing glare, improving privacy, and giving you a little more control over the amount of light that’s coming in.

This is one of the main benefits that is specific to window films, but there are so many others that we will have to go into at another time.

Where is the Window Tint Applied To?

Window tint should always be applied to the interior of the windows. This allows for it to make the most of the film itself. If you specifically choose to have the film added to the exterior of the window, you should account for the various types of damage that could happen to the window. For example, wear and tear from the weather is one of the primary reasons that we suggest adding it to the interior. By doing so, you eliminate any issues with this particular hazard.

How Do You Clean Window Tints?

For the first week that you have window tints installed, avoid cleaning the windows as a whole. Allowing the window tints to settle before you go ahead and clean them will ensure that they are able to fully set and stick to the window better than they might have otherwise. After this week period of letting them sit, you can clean them with a window cleaner that is free of ammonia. This could take away from the film and make it difficult for the film to stick on the windows as well. If you do choose to clean them, make sure that you are using a soft material so as not to scratch the film. This is another main way that window films can be pulled up and have scratches in the film.

We know that we haven’t covered all of the questions that you may have, but these are some of the main ones. If you have any further questions regarding the process of adding films to your windows, what the expense of them will be, or how to prepare for the process, we can definitely provide you with those answers, and more, during your consultation.

Finding the Right Treatments for Your Bathroom

windowfilm1The bathroom in your house is one of the most private spaces in your home, but when you’ve got windows that peep directly into this space, you definitely lose a bit of privacy. Rather than leave these windows open right into one of the most private rooms of your space, you can find a fantastic window treatment to use in this space and increase the privacy.

At Arjay’s Window Fashions in Ventura, we have a wide variety of window treatments that can provide you with privacy in your bathroom, but there are plenty of things that you need to consider before determining which one is going to be the best for your space. Here are a few of the ones that we suggest looking into and what types of considerations need to be made before committing to them.

Window Film

A window film is an easy way to add privacy to space without having to really add any noticeable treatment. Window films are known for adding texture or tint to any type of window. The great thing about this form of treatment is that you can still make use of the natural light coming in through the window, but without leaving it entirely easy to see into. Something that you may want to consider with this window treatment is whether or not you’d like to use any other treatments such as blinds or curtains in the space, or if this is going to provide enough privacy for you while in the bathroom.

This particular form of window treatment is one that is pretty easy to incorporate throughout the home, but in bathrooms, it can be heavy and almost overly efficient. Bathrooms are usually small spaces, so when you use a heavy window treatment to block the small amount of natural light that there is, you’ll see just how dark space immediately becomes. If this is a treatment that you want to consider using, you need to consider the amount of light that you have in this space, the size of the window and the material of the curtains. All in all, the combination of these three things should provide you with a more private bathroom, but still with an open and welcoming space.

Depending on the size of your window, and the amount of room in your bathroom, blinds are another option that you have in regards to window treatments. These are very conventional window treatments, but, as with curtains, you really have to be aware of closing the blinds before using the restroom in order to benefit from the full privacy that this window treatment offers. Depending on what the window that you’re trying to treat is open too, this might be entirely okay, but if there is a neighboring house right outside the window or if there is easy access to looking into the window, you may want to consider using window film so that you can still enjoy the bathroom without having to worry about whether or not the blinds or curtains are drawn before using the restroom.

Regardless of which window treatment you choose, Arjay’s Window Fashions is the place to take care of you. We have the high quality and beautiful window treatments that you’re looking for, so stop by our showroom today and get a glimpse at all that we have to offer.
